12-16-2012 Sermon- Pastor Mark Rossington

A terrible tragedy has struck Newtown, Connecticut and everyone has been wondering why such a thing has happened. There are many explanations as to why someone would do such a thing and none of them really seem to fit. People try to explain the evil in this world, and there are so many reasons as to why there is it gets confusing and muddled. Is there really a real reason for tragedies such as this? And if so, what is it? Pastor Mark tackles that thought and talks about how human sin can be a terrible force and uses an event that happened to Lake Erie as an illustration to what human sin is capable of, and what God can do in situations such as these. 12-09-2012 John The Baptist- Pastor Mark Rossington

It's that time of the church year where the story of Jesus' birth is told and as well as the events that lead up to it. One of them is learning about John the Baptist, and what role he played in with Jesus, but what was it?  What was so special about him that it was recorded in the Bible? Was he really a crazy hermit that paintings have portrayed him as? Pastor Mark talked about John the Baptist and explained in detail how he grew up and how important he was to Jesus, and not just because they were cousins. He also talked about how his life and what he did before Jesus came onto the world stage means for us today. The sermon about John the Baptist can be found right here for your listening pleasure.

12-02-2012 Always Expecting, Never Worried- Pastor Mark Rossington

It's that time of year where talks of the Second Coming are becoming more and more prevalent, and there are even TV shows dedicated to talking about just that. There are lots of speculation about what will happen and what the signs are so that we will know when it's coming, and even how to be prepared for when it happens. With all that being thrown about, what does the Second Coming really mean? Should we even watch out for it? Pastor Mark talked about that this past Sunday, and spoke about how we should watch for it, but not be worried about it like the outside world tells us we should. Curious to know more about it? The sermon can be found right here for your listening pleasure.

11-21-2012 Attitude of Gratitude: Thanksgiving Eve- Pastor Mark Rossington

The other thing about being thankful for what you are giving is giving actual thanks for it. By that, we will go to the person and say, 'thanks' or sometimes we do something for them in a show of thankfulness and gratitude for what they've done. How often we do that is really spotty and depends on the situation that we deem worthy of giving thanks. Is that really what we should be doing though? In the sermon series finale, Pastor Mark uses the story of the Ten Lepers as an illustration on how we should give thanks for everything that people do for us, and especially giving God thanks everything that's He's done for us. That sermon series finale can be found and listened to right here.

11-18-2012 Hitting Curve Balls- Pastor Mark Rossington

Curve balls are something that we are told to prepare for and to expect considering, sadly, that it's a part of life and the world we live in. However, they do have a habit of coming out of nowhere and knocking you down even if you are prepared and ready for them. How do you react when something like financial troubles, job loss, etc., come barreling at you? How do you prevent yourself from becoming bitter and angry? In part two of the short sermon series, Pastor Mark talks about those very questions, and how you can take those curve balls in stride and having a positive attitude at the same time. That very sermon can be found right here for your convenience.

11-11-2012 A Widow's Mite- Pastor Mark Rossington

Around this time of year, it's the time to be thankful and to give to others that either don't have much, or nothing at all. That's the attitude that we're supposed to have every single day, but it's really driven home around the holiday season, and to be thankful for having what we have. So, what kind of attitude are supposed to have when we have much, or few? Pastor Mark begins a new short sermon series called 'An Attitude of Gratitude', and he uses the story of the 'Widow's Mite' as an example of how we can have that kind of attitude when giving to God and others. That first installment in the series can be found right here.

11-04-2012 Angels?- Pastor Mark Rossington

Whether you're a Christian or not, everyone knows about angels. Hollywood has done movies about them, TV shows have had episodes where they're there doing miraculous things or for comic relief, and works of fiction have them in spades. They're used a lot because they're kind of a neutral entity that can be used in areas of fictional stories because there isn't a definitive description on them, so writers can use them however they see fit. Or is there? We've heard so many things about angels that it's really hard to tell what they really are and what they are not. By popular demand from the Epiphany congregation, Pastor Mark talks about angels and what the Bible has to say about them. He separates fact from fiction about what they can do, and clarifies what is known and isn't known about them. This informative little sermon can be found right here.

10-28-2012 Reformation Sunday- Pastor Mark Rossington

In the Lutheran Church, Reformation Sunday is kind of a big deal because that's the day where Martin Luther nailed the 95 theses on the Castle Church door in Wittenberg, Germany. It was the day where there was a split in the Catholic Chuch and the Protesant Reformation began, and the events after that we're not pretty. That may have happened over 400 years ago in Germany, but what relevence does that have on us today? Does it still mean something for us Christians as a whole? Pastor Mark gives a sermon on the importance of Reformation Sunday, but also includes that it is very much relevent for us as a whole as Christians. There are still "Indulgence" type of products that are sold, and Pastor Mark gives more insight how those products are not needed when God has given everyone His grace. Wanna hear more about what he has to say? That sermon can be found here at you convenience.

10-21-2012 Prayer That Makes A Difference- Pastor Mark Rossington

In our time at Sunday School, we're taught how to prayer, what to pray for, and when we're to pray, and we're taught that as well in church when we're older. When we're outside of church and any sort of church function, we may not pray as often as we should and we become lost as to what to pray for. What do you pray to God for anyways? Sometimes we feel like we're being selfish in our wants and even no ask Him for things because it sounds insignificant to us. There are even times where we feel as if pray won't do anything for us even if we ask Him in prayer. What do we do? Pastor Mark gives a sermon on prayer and how it can make a difference if you go to God for any of your needs. It doesn't have to take a tremendous amount of faith to go to God with prayer, and you really can ask Him for anything. Take a moment and give this sermon a listen, which can be found here, won't you?

10-07-2012 Your Valid ID- Pastor Mark Rossington

If someone were to come up to you and ask for your ID, you would dig around for you driver's license and possibly a birth certificate to prove who you are. It's the standard way of getting around in this day in age, and it's something that we come to expect. When it comes to showing someone ID for who you are as a person, that part becomes a little tricky since we all show who we identify with in various ways. That part becomes very muddled if we have various ways of showing that, like our job, family name, what we own, etc., and sometimes it can get complicated. Is there an easier way of doing this? If so, what is it? In the series finale of J-Verify, Pastor Mark talks about the various ways of which we normally identify ourselves, and what being a Christian really means as a form of ID, so to speak. The series is wrapped up and everything comes to together in this one, so to hear this one, and the other parts in the series, you can go here for your listening pleasure.

09-30-2012 Working With the Hand You've Been Dealt- Pastor Mark Rossington

We as people like to put on facades when we want to hide something from the people we care about. Sometimes we wear them briefly just to get past something that we don't want other people to see, and sometimes the facades stay for longer than we'd care to admit. We sometimes put them on to escape from who we are and create something that's better than who we actually are as a person. Why do we do that though? How do we get away from relying on such things and actually live our own lives? In the third installment in the sermon series "J-Verify", Pastor Mark talks about how to get past using methods that stop anyone from living their life and how to go through life and deal with what God has given you. It may not be easy, but it will be worth it in the long run. Speaking of easy, it's rather to access that little sermon because it's right here.

09-23-2012 Securing Your Insecurites- Pastor Mark Rossington

Being secure with one's self is something that everyone tries to achieve and maintain, and can be a major task depending on what's going on in one's life. When that fork in the road comes up and a choice is presented, it's scary to decide what's best and we tend to overthink the situation, and our mind plays games with us. The actual act may not be as scary as we think it is, but our own insecurites will come flashing up at the worst possible moment. So how do you deal with that? What do you do when your own insecurites came up and will not leave? "Securing Your Insecurites" is the title and the main focus of the sermon that Pastr Mark preached on this past Sunday. He talks about one main figure from the Old Testament that went through it and how, with time, those insecurites will go away if you put your trust in God to help you through it. That little sermon can be found right here.

09-16-2012 J-Verify- Do You Know Who You Are?- Pastor Mark Rossington

It doesn't take much to realize that there are many different types of people and personalities out in the world. Everyone is different to one degree or another, and life experiences dictate to what makes us the person that we are. Although, there are times where we question our life experiences and how that shaped the person that we are today, so what does make each of us tick? Do we have much of a say in the matter when it involves us? Pastor Mark startes a brand new sermon series titled, J-Verify, and the first one askes a very interesting question, do you know who you are? He goes more indepth in that question and how anyone can answer that question and see where and how you can figure out what makes you the way you are. The very first installment to the series can be found right here.

When a tragedy like a loss of a job, a loved one, or even when you lose a home the question that comes popping up is, what do I do now? A situation like that hits everyone hard and can make anyone feel lost and without a clue on what to do next. Anyone can become bitter and spiteful very quickly when anything tragic happens, but how do you stop that from happening? What do you do? In the final installment of Pastor Mark's sermon titled, "Trusting God", he gives some answers on what do you do when something unthinkable happens. He gives some examples from the Bible and in real life on how anyone can get through it and where God can give you strength to get through the tough times. That final part in the sermon series can be found right here.

09-02-2012 Trusting In God When You Don't Feel Like It- Pastor Mark Rossington

When you put your trust in someone, like a friend or family member, or something, like a car or medication, what does it mean? We put our trust in things all the time and if something bad happens we feel like our trust has been betrayed, and when given a second chance we question it. Sometimes we casually trust something where depending on our mood and how we are feeling, we might put our trust into that one person or thing. Pastor Mark tackles that area in the sermon series Trusting God where he goes into detail about how trust isn't an emotion, how we can trust God 24/7 and how to break away from being apathetic. Wanna hear more? The fourth part in that sermon series can be found right here.

08-26-2012 Trusting God Through Life's Troubles- Pastor Mark Rossington

When life does throw you that curve ball, who do you trust to help you? Friends and family can provide all sorts of advice to help you get through it, and the internet has hundreds of thousands of different ways to guide you. With all that information coming at you, it's really hard to know what to do and who to trust in times of trouble. What does the word "trust" really mean? Marching on in the sermon series Trusting God, Pastor Mark discusses what trusting means and how we can put our trust in God to help us get through life's struggles and come out knowing that He's there to help out every step of the way when no one else can. 08-12-2012 Trusting God in Life's Changes- Pastor Mark Rossington

Change is a part of life, that's no secret about it and we've come to expect it. Whether it's a good change or a bad change, a sudden change or one that you can see coming, it's something that everyone can agree on that it's a mixed bag. People can deal with a good change easily, but the bad ones can either be navigated through with patience or they can hit you hard enough to make you want to give up or get angry about. What about those? In a brand new sermon series on Trusting God in Life's Changes, Pastor Mark sets it up by talking about those things and more and talks about how trusting in God can help make a painful change easier to handle. The start of that new series can be found here.

08-05-2012 Forgiveness- Pastor Mark Rossington

Forgiving someone and asking forgiveness is something we typically do without giving much thought, whether it's an, "It's okay," or an, "I'm sorry," we do it all the time. When someone does us harm in some degree or another we will wait until that person apologizes to us before we take any action, or, if they don't, sometimes we think about how to get back at them. Forgiving someone is important to us as Christians since Christ died for us to forgive us our sins, and it's even in the Lord's Prayer, but do we really mean it? Pastor Mark talks about forgiveness and what we really should be doing when we forgive someone and when we're aking someone to forgive us. Take a moment and give this little sermon a listen, won't you?

07-22-2012 Making Sense of Human Evil- Pastor Mark Rossington

All we really have to do is just turn on the TV and see all sorts of terrible things happening that goes on just about everyday. Whether it's something that happened across the globe or something that happened in our own area that we live in. The question is always raised, "Why does God allow such a thing?" But is that the question that we should really be asking when human evil posps up? With the recent events in Colorado on a night when people only wanted to see the release of The Dark Knight Rises, Pastor Mark gives some thoughts about that horrible event, what human evil really means, and what it means to us as Christians. For those thoughts and a different insight, that sermon can be found right here.

07-15-2012 Christian Civility- Pastor Mark Rossington

One of the hardest things to do is trying to be civil towards people that would love nothing more than to argue with you and get their point heard over yours. It's very hard to keep your cool and be civil towards them when there's nothing but vile words and loud talking heading your way. We see it on TV all the time when there's a major topic being discussed on a major news program and we have come to accept that that's the norm and yelling at each other is how discussions are done. How do you deal with people that talk over you and make it very hard for your points to be heard? Pastor Mark has noticed that this hasn't been discussed much and decided to talk about it in Sunday's sermon. He gives examples of where we see it and how we can be civil towards someone that isn't showing the same cuourtesy. This little sermon can be found right here for your listening pleasure.

07-08-2012 What Do You Do When Your Life is Falling Apart? - Pastor Mark Rossington

The downside of living in the world that we live in is that there are times where everything just seems to crash and burn out of nowhere. One moment you can be enjoying your time with the people you know and love and the next you get news of something bad that has happened. It can be a death, a job lose, financial struggles, or even major surgery, but whatever it is, it can become overwhelming. How do you get through it when it seems like nothing is going right and everything is going down hill? Pastor Mark talks about how you can overcome these obstacles and that when you have God in your corner, you can find ways and the strength to get through them. The sermon can be found here for your listening convenience.

07-01-2012 Fishing is Fun!- Pastor Mark Rossington

Fishing is one of the great and relaxing pass times in the summer where you just hop into a boat and go to your local lake for some fish hunting. It's the time where you get to hang out with friends and family with the main goal of catching as much fish as you possibly can. What does fishing have to do with going out and telling people about the Gospel? Well, there are some intersting parallels between the two that not very many people know about and can become quite useful when you're out with people and have that chance. Pastor Mark talked about it on this past Sunday about how to go out and be fishermen of people and how you can use techniques from actual fishing and use it when around people. Curious? That little sermon can be found in the tackle box right here.

06-17-2012 It's Good to be a Man!- Pastor Mark Rossington

This past weekend was Father's Day, and that's the day where we thank and show our appreciation for our fathers and grandfathers for everything that they've done for us. They work hard and try their best to make sure that we have everything that we need, outside of financial needs, and to make sure that we are happy. The past follwing years though, men have been having a hard time being happy themselves with the way that society has been acting and with the way that the job market has been. So, how do you fix that? Sunday's sermon touches upon that and Pastor Mark uses the story of Joshua from the Old Testament as a spring board about how guys can apply that story to their own lives, and there's even some information that women can use as well. Know someone that can use this in their own life? That sermon can be found here.

06-10-2012 What is the Sin Against the Holy Spirit- Pastor Mark Rossington

As Christians we are told to forgive everyone that has done something wrong towards us and give it freely. It even says it in the Lord's Prayer, "as we forgive those who sin against us," and Jesus talked about it frequently when talking to his disciples as well as to the people he met. It's been told again and again that we should forgive, and that God will forgive every sin that has ever been committed, yet there is one passage in the Bible that cites one sin particular that is unforgivable. What is it and have we ever done that? Pastor Mark talks about what that sin in question really is and what it means exactly, and reassures us that we have nothing to fear abut committing such a sin. Curious to know what that sin is and how serious it is? That little gem can be found right here.

06-03-2012 Being Reverent- Pastor Mark Rossington

One word that we hear on a daily basis and are told to show this towards certain people and events is respect, or showing reverence. When we go to a funeral, wedding, or any type of ceremony we show respect towards the person speaking and towards certain things happening like standing or bowing. What about in a church? How much respect are supposed to show towards God and in the church? We all dress nicely in our Sunday best, but is it enough or is that too much? Last Sunday that was Trinity as well as Confirmation Sunday, Pastor Mark talks briefy about what Trinity Sunday is and how there are many ways to show our reverence towards God and it's not just about dressing nicely. Take a moment to give this one a listen and you might be surprised on what he has to say about all this.

05-13-2012 To Love, Honor, and Serve- Pastor Mark Rossington

It's Mother's Day! It's that time of year where we honor our mothers and show them how much they mean to us by doing a multitude of things  like flowers, taking them out for a meal, or even a nice gift. Now that's just for one day out of the whole 365 day spectrum, what about the rest? On that special Sunday, Pastor Mark gave a sermon on how we should always show love and honor towards our mothers, and as well as serving them. He gives examples on how we can do that every single day and how we can show our appreciation towards them. Give this one a whirl, and find out what the bible has to say about it as well. That very sermon can be found nowhere else, but right here.

05-06-2012 A No Regret Life- Pastor Mark Rossington

When we normally talk about regrets it's normally in a setting with friends and family where it's discussed and stories past regrets are shared. After that, it's possibly thought about for a few minutes and then we move on. Those are normally the minor ones, what about the big ones? The ones where they're so huge and have impacted our lives so much that it's something that can't be shared or even let go. What about those? In the final installment of One Month To Living, Pastor Mark talks about those kind of regrets and gives us an idea what to do about them. As well as trying to have a life without regrets and how to accomplish that, and it may not be as difficult as it sounds, but it does take some time. That sermon can be found right here for your listening convenience.

04-29-2012 What Memories Do You Make?- Pastor Mark Rossington

Whether we know it or not, we are leaving impressions on people every single day, and they may either be good or bad ones. It all depends on our day and who we are interacting with and we try to make good impacts and memories when we are dealing with people. We try to make good memories, but there's always that part of us that just wants us to let us do whatever we want, and that can be dangerous. What do we do? In the fourth installment of One Month to Living, Pastor Mark talks about that very thing, and gives some food for thought about it. Intrigued to hear more about this internal struggle? Why, it's right here, enjoy!

04-22-2012 Making Relationships Matter- Pastor Mark Rossington

We have various types of relationships with the people around us from family members, friends, and to even co-workers. Some are really close and some not as close, but they're still there and we consider having a good relationship with them. If it's not a good relationship, or one that isn't as good as you were hoping, what do you do? What constitutes as a good relationship with the people around you? This past Sunday's message called Making Relationships Matter, Pastor Mark talks about what is and isn't a good relationship, and how sometimes we have to change our own bad behavior to make a relationship stronger. Curious? Intrigued? That sermon can get listened to at anytime, right here.

04-15-2012 What to Do and Not to Do- Pastor Mark Rossington

A lot of the time we go about our day and don't really give much thought about what we really should be doing or not doing. We tend to do things that try to make life easy for us or even happy, but that doesn't last very long, so we try something else. How many times do we do that without much luck and get frustrated by the outcome? Society tells us that we should be happy, but it can be very hard at times. This past weekend's sermon touched upon that and Pastor Mark talks about what we should be doing and what we shouldn't be doing. The sermon also talks about how we tend to do our will and not God's will, but does give a solution to that. Sometimes it can be difficult to see it, but it's worth the effort. Take a moment to give this a spin, won't you?

04-08-2012 How To Make Sure You Are Going To Heaven- Pastor Mark Rossington

It's Easter! That time of year means a great deal to Christians everywhere since not only did Jesus raise himself from the dead, he beat death! How cool is that? Speaking of death, a question, what if someone told you that you have one month to live? How would you live your life from here on? Let's change that question a little, how would you start living in that month? With those questions in mind, how can you be certain you're going to heaven? In his brand new sermon series on One Month To Living, Pastor Mark talks about those questions, and gives some light on how you will know for certain that you will go to heaven, despite what you might have heard. Intrigued? Well, you're in luck! It's right here for your listening convenience. Enjoy!

04-06-2012 Thank God, You Are Not A Part Of The 99%- Pastor Mark Rossington

When we see or hear something being ninety-nine percent, we think that's it's a good number to have  because it's close to being one hundred percent. Although, the past year, the phrase "ninety-nine percent" was taken to meaning something negative if anyone has paid attention to the news over that time period. In general though, it's still a good number to have, right? On Good Friday, Pastor Mark talks about that pecentage number and we should be thanking God that we're not a part of that, and what that means. Not really sure what that even means? That sermon is right here, if you're inclined to find out more.

04-01-2012 Jesus, The Christ- Pastor Mark Rossington

Holy Communion is one of the tennents of the Christian church that has a very special meaning  to everyone that partakes in it. We typically don't give it much thought as we take the bread and wine, and we may even say a prayer right afterwards. We also know that Jesus instituted it at the Passover meal with his twelve disciples right before he went into the garden to pray. There can't be much more to this act, right? In the final installment of Guess Who's Coming To Dinner, Pastor Mark talks about Jesus Christ and Holy Communion. It's a very special dinner that Jesus has invited us to, and given that it's Palm Sunday, it has even more of a meaning to use Christians. Take a moment and give this little humble sermon a go, pretty please?

03-28-2012 Santa Claus, Mardi Gras, and the Easter Bunny- Pastor Mark Rossington

Around the major holidays of days like Christmas and Easter, we will typically see decorations of Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny, pumpkins and hearts and arrows depending on the day. Those also fall around the same time, or the same day, as the major Christian holidays like the birth and resurrection of Jesus Christ. So what's a Christian to do? Their counterparts have appeared to taken over, so can a Christian celebrate those holidays? In the final installment of Pastor Mark's Lenten series on what the Bible has to say on contemporary issues that we face, he talks about how we can still celebrate those holidays and how we can even have a holiday like Halloween to have a Christian meaning and still participate in it. Give this one a listen and see what this all means.

03-21-2012 Gambling and Horoscopes- Pastor Mark Rossington

Gambling has had a huge impact in our society, and it doesn't take anyone a long time to look around and know that. Casinos are known for gambling and there are even help groups for people that are addicted to it, so because of that people have a slightly negative opinion on it. With horoscopes we see them everywhere in newspapers, magazines, and on the internet. It doesn't long to find out what our sign says about our day or even year, and our society views that as silly and harmless fun. We hear how those two things come into question many times when it comes to the Bible, so what does the Bible say about it? Pastor Mark gives a sermon on those two topics and gives some surprising answers about those, and we, once again, come to realize how many freedoms we have as Christians.

03-18-3012 Zacchaeus- Pastor Mark Rossington

Throughout everyday of our lives we make observations about the people we encounter and the things that's happened to us. They may also be conversation pieces with friends and family depending on how funny or not it was. This may lead to us making not only observations but judgements about everything and make ourselves better than the people we meet, and create ourselves a status based on various things. This is something that can be harmful in our lives, but how did this happen? Pastor Mark marches on in his sermon on Guess Who's Coming to Dinner with the story on Jesus going to Zacchaeus' house for dinner. The story reveals a lot of information about how those judgements can be harmful and how we should be basing our self-esteem not by humans, but by God and what he has to say about us. Curious to know more? Well, you're in luck! It's right here.

Typically when we see a show on television about fraternities and such organizations we normally think of anti-Christian and being very secretive. Then there are Fraternaties and Soroties, we will typically think of college life and what they do for fun on the weekends. So, as Christians, can we join them? What does the Bible say about this? Pastor Mark takes those questions and actually tells us what the Bible does say, and reiterates how much freedom we have as Christians. Take a moment and give this one a listen, pretty please?

03-11-2012 Guess Who's Coming to Dinner- Pastor Mark Rossington

As Christians we go about our days reading the Bible and going to church for worship and fellowship, and doing what we're supposed to be doing. What happens though when we start using our faith in a more intellectual sense rather than acting as Jesus would want us to? Do we start making presumptions about people? How does that affect us and the people around us? In a new sermon series called Guess Who's Coming to Dinner?, Pastor Mark discusses the story of the Pharisee and the woman with a past. Revelations about the story may surprise you and how this story applies to our lives. Give this little sermon a listen, won't you?

03-07-2012 Alcohol, Tabacco, and Tattoos - Pastor Mark Rossington

Everyday we see someone with tattoos, a few or a lot of them, or even smoking. We tend to judge other people for it doing those things, and sadly we sometimes treat those people differently. What about drinking? Just about everyone does that and we tend to not judge them that harshly since that's just a rite of passage into adulthood. Now, what does the Bible have to say about all that? The Bible does get mentioned by those that judge others for doing those things as a way of condemnation. Pastor Mark takes alcohol, tabacco and tattoos, as well as piercings, and gives us a glimce into what the Bible does say, or doesn't say. The answers will surprise you, and you get to see what freedoms we do have as Christians, and you can listen to that right here.

Pastor Mark talks about those activities in his Lenten series on what to do when the Bible is silent. He's not going to be up at the podium and condemn or condone it, but he has some thoughts about it. Care to listen? Here it is.

02-26-2012 Preparing to Prevail- Pastor Mark Rossington

As Christians we are no stanger to opposition when things like curses are hurled upon us for just believing in the things that we do, or even when things happen to us and we carry on the best we can. There is a fine line though and it can get in the way of our lives and become a problem all on it's own, so where is it? Pastor Mark goes further into that question and uses the Old Testament story of David and Goliath as an illistration to what we should be doing to replenish us when things be big and scary. Wanna hear more about this? Easy! This little sermon is right here.
